A simple pair of PJs can be life-changing here’s how:
Every year, thousands of Australians slip into their comfiest pyjamas to support National Pyjama Day.
But behind the cosiness and fun, there is a powerful purpose: empowering children in foster care with learning, life skills, and confidence!
Right now, there are more than 45,000 children in Australia living in out-of-home care. These are children for whatever reason, cannot safely live with their families.
Being removed from home is often just the beginning of a long and difficult journey. Children in care are more likely to face disrupted education, mental health challenges, instability in housing and relationships, and a disconnect from culture and community.
Without the right support, these early disadvantages can follow them into adulthood.
The earlier we step in with support, the better the outcomes are. Our Love of Learning Program focuses on literacy, mentoring, and emotional wellbeing, and can change the trajectory of a child’s life. We help to build confidence, connection, and life skills.
Why wearing PJs matters
Wearing your pyjamas on National Pyjama Day isn’t just the comfiest day of the year! It raises funds to support life-changing programs and awareness about the challenges children in care face every day. Your pyjamas power our Love of Learning Program, which matches an amazing volunteer mentor, a Pyjama Angel, with a foster child, giving them the tools they need to thrive.
Pyjama Day is also a chance to have a little fun at your workplace, school, or daycare (or anywhere you host!). From bake sales and games afternoons to silly sock contests and fashion parades, the day is filled with joy and community spirit. Last year, some schools raised over $1,000 just by hosting a PJ parade and selling cupcakes!
So, What Can You Do?
You can do so much from slipping into your snuggliest PJs, sharing your fundraising link, and telling your friends why you are getting comfy this winter. Because when you wear your PJs to work or school, you’re helping rewrite the story for thousands of children across Australia.
