At The Pyjama Foundation, we are always grateful for the generosity and support of our dedicated community.
Our supporters play a vital role in ensuring our Programs can continue to empower children and young people in care with learning, life skills and confidence.
This Thankathon, we are proud to recognise a supporter whose generosity is deeply rooted in gratitude, family and a genuine desire to give back.
Inspired by Family
Brian’s journey with The Pyjama Foundation started close to home. Brian’s daughter had been a supporter for a long time, and she encouraged him to get involved. She is also a Pyjama Angel herself, which inspired Brian to become even more engaged.
Through attending events and becoming more involved, Brian found himself drawn to something deeper. The philosophy and energy of The Pyjama Foundation community that truly resonated with him.
One of the most meaningful parts of Brian’s journey has been witnessing the impact that one consistent, caring adult can have in a young person’s life.
Giving Back with Gratitude
Behind Brian’s generosity is a deep sense of gratitude.
“I’ve been very fortunate in life. I left school at 15 with a basic education. My mother was a single mum for many years with three children, and I saw the struggles. I worked hard, took an apprenticeship, got married and started a business, and was successful in it for 45 years. I'm very grateful for what Australia has done for me. This is my way of giving back and showing gratitude for the opportunities I’ve had.” - Brian
For Brian, giving back is about a desire to create opportunities for others so everyone can flourish and thrive.
Moments that Stayed
One moment that stands out to our team is when Brian met a young girl in care (a Love of Learning Program recipient) who needed orthodontic treatment.
“I had two daughters and one of them had braces, and I saw firsthand the change that can happen and the increase in confidence.” - Brian
Wanting to make that same difference, Brian chose to step in and help. He supported her treatment over time, and in the end, it was a simple moment that meant the most.
“When she finished, she gave us a big smile, which is taking her through life now.”- Brian
A Message to Others
Brian’s message to anyone considering supporting children in foster care is simple:
“You’ll get a great deal of personal satisfaction knowing that if you’ve been helped in life, you can go out and help somebody else. It’s a wonderful way to make a difference.” - Brian
This Thankathon, we extend our sincere thanks for Brian’s generosity, humility and belief in the power of giving back. Without the support of incredible donors like Brian, it wouldn’t be possible for us to help vulnerable children rewrite their stories.
