The 2024 Summer Olympics have commenced in Paris with over 10,500 athletes and 206 nations participating. Featuring sports like swimming, athletics, gymnastics, basketball and so much more, the Summer Olympics give us the opportunity to watch top-level athletes compete. The Olympic games are an inspiring event for everyone, so why not get the little ones in your life involved in some Olympic-themed fun this month!
Here are six fun activities to get into the Olympic spirit:
Olympic Word Search
Rather than putting your physical abilities to the test, why not challenge your mind? Use the printable template below and try finding all the sports themed words sprinkled throughout!
Discus Throw
Jump outside and line up the kids at a starting point. Using a frisbee (foam or plastic) as the ‘discus’, mark each throw and see who can throw the discus the furthest!
Rhythmic Gymnastics
Using hoops, ribbons, balls, and music, give kids lots of room to get creative with their equipment. They can swirl with their ribbons, pose and balance with balls, and use their hips or arms to rotate the hoops. Come up with your own Olympic performance and give each other scores on the presentations.
Olympic Ring Painting
Using a piece of paper, cardboard tubes (toilet rolls or paper towel tubes) and acrylic paint in red, green, blue, black and yellow, create your own Olympic ring painting! This simple craft is done by painting the ends of the cardboard rolls. This creates a perfect stamp to paint the Olympic rings.
Design your own Olympic Uniform!
Time to get creative! Grab the downloadable template below and let the young ones design their own Olympic team uniform.
Olympic Torch Craft
Use your handprints to make the Olympic torch! Using red, orange and yellow paint and a piece of paper with the Olympic torch template, create your very own eternal flame. Find a free downloadable template of the Olympic torch here.
The Olympics is a time to celebrate the drive and dedication of athletes who push themselves to achieve incredible feats. It also reminds us that we can do great things too when we try new things and step out of our comfort zones.
We hope you and the young people in your life have a lot of fun with these activities!
