Celebrating the Heart of Our Foundation
2026 is International Volunteer Year, a global movement that recognises the essential role volunteers play in shaping a kinder, more connected world. At The Pyjama Foundation, we see the power of volunteering every single day. It's the very reason our Love of Learning Program exists. Through the simple and generous act of giving time, volunteers enrich the lives of children in care and their families. It is a powerful reminder of what relationship and presence can achieve.
We are deeply grateful for the time, support, and energy our volunteers dedicate to our Foundation. From our volunteer Office Angels, who help keep our team organised so we can make a meaningful impact, to our Pyjama Angels, who generously show up week after week to support children in care, every contribution counts and matters.
The United Nations (UN) has declared 2026 as International Volunteer Year (IVY 2026) to recognise volunteerism as a key driver of sustainable development. The aim is to encourage the world, from governments to local communities, to champion volunteerism in all its forms. Put simply, the UN acknowledges that volunteers are vital in building the world we all want to see, and that every contribution counts.
At The Pyjama Foundation, volunteering directly supports long-term, sustainable change. It is only with our entire network of volunteers that we are able to help break the cycle of disadvantage experienced by children in care. Through early intervention, ongoing support and consistent mentoring, children in care are given the opportunity to change their life trajectory.
By creating positive, consistent relationships, our volunteers empower Australian children in care with learning, life skills, and confidence. In doing so, they help create stronger foundations not only for individual children, but for families, communities and future generations.
Volunteering is at the heart of everything we do. Every hour given, every story shared, every bit of presence our volunteers provide helps us ensure children in care feel loved, supported, and seen. This International Volunteer Year, we proudly celebrate our volunteers, the everyday heroes who help make a difference, every single day.
