Christmas is a time of joy, family, and belonging, but for many children in foster care, it can also be a time of uncertainty and longing.

This year, our CEO and Founder, Bronwyn, received a heartfelt letter from Joan, a foster carer who has opened her home and heart to children for more than 10 years. Joan is currently caring for an eight-year-old girl named Olivia, though she prefers to be called Liv.
Liv entered foster care at just two years old. Since then, she’s moved homes more than three times. Each move brings new faces, new school, and new challenges.

Recently, Liv wrote a letter to Santa:

It accomanied this drawing too:

This letter isn’t just about a bike, it’s a plea from a child who wants to be found, seen, and loved.

Joan shared that Liv is a quiet girl, overwhelmed by recent changes and struggling with her learning. With three other
energetic children in the house, Joan wishes she could give Liv the one-on-one attention she needs to build confidence and learn to read and write.

That’s where a Pyjama Angel can make a difference. Pyjama Angels visit children in foster care once a week to help with reading, learning, and building confidence. They believe in these children, cheer them on, and sometimes even help them learn to ride that bike.

Joan knows the difference a Pyjama Angel can make. She’s seen it before with the other three boys she cares for - how these incredible volunteers bring back the joy and fun of childhood, help with learning, and build confidence.

Joan wrote:

“This Christmas, all Liv wants is a bike, but she doesn’t know how to ride one. If she had a Pyjama Angel, they could help her learn. It would be more than a gift. It would be hope.”
